Denver Proposal Guide
Regarding your future, you can’t think of doing life with a better human than your partner, and I couldn’t be more excited for you. It is so profound to find your person and tell them you’re ready to make it official.
Planning your Denver Proposal
While many people think mountain tops and proposals go together like PB & J, many partners choose to forgo the mountains for their proposal and choose a meaningful spot in Denver. A few reasons I love Denver proposals:
You’re close to home, which means lower risk for mountain driving, leaving something behind, etc.
You have access to a plethora of indoor venues, and therefore, weather backup flexibility
You can choose a sentimental spot, maybe a frequent date night spot for you both?
Your proposal in Denver creates a more inconspicuous setting, which means you’re more likely to pull off a surprise if you go the surprise proposal route.
Lower elevation means a safer space for guests coming to celebrate, such as parents, siblings, friends, etc.
You can both wear something a little more dressed up for the proposal, as a date night dinner creates the perfect opportunity
The list continues
Whether you plan a low-key, super private proposal or a surprise with your partner's friends and/or family, I’d love to capture all the tears and laughter of this special moment. I’d also love to help you plan your Denver proposal. I’ve listed some tips below to get you started.
Questions to Ask Yourself Pre-Proposal
Who Should I Invite?
Will family and friends come for a surprise party after? Do you want your furry friends there? Do you want it to be just you two? Asking yourself these questions beforehand will set you up for success. If you’re inviting family and friends, make sure to have a game plan for keeping it a surprise, as the more people who know, the more likely someone will accidentally spill the beans. If you want furry friends to make an appearance, I highly suggest hiring a dog wrangler or having a friend wrangle the pups, so your dog doesn’t steal the show or your future fiancé's attention. Reserving an apartment rooftop, hotel rooftop, or restaurant gives you a great location to hold a private dinner or surprise group gathering afterwards.
Who’s their Best Friend?
Who does your partner call their best friend? If they’re good at keeping secrets, contact them when your partner isn’t home (or with them!) to understand better what they’d like regarding a proposal.
Will I propose with THE ring or a prop ring?
My sister recently got engaged with a $20 prop ring. She’s very particular regarding ring design, and her fiancé wanted it to surprise her. Again, chat with your fiancé’s closest friend or family member to determine what they’d like best. Also, if you’re looking for a local ring designer, I ADORE Sarah O Jewelry, pro tip: book Brie on Tennyson. Also, ensure you have PLENTY of wiggle room regarding the ring delivery date, as made-to-order items can take longer than your Amazon orders, and can include delays.
What should I wear? What should they wear?
If you can, have them go shopping with their friends a few months beforehand for date night and other outfits. I love Lady Jones on Tennyson for more feminine looks and a good thrift and vintage shop for snappy looks. Also, the “reservation” you choose will help dictate outfits. You don’t HAVE to have a reservation at a particular restaurant, but using it as an excuse can help guide your partner's outfit choice.
Am I planning something we’ll both like?
A fun proposal idea for you might not be a fun one for your partner, so brainstorming a few proposals you’d both enjoy, with some helpful input from your partner’s best friend, will help you plan a fun proposal for both of you.
When in the day should I propose?
I suggest proposing 1-2 hours before sunset. Golden hour light will create a romantic backdrop for your proposal, and your partner will likely dress up if you have a late afternoon or early evening date. Also, having a dinner reservation or a group of people to surprise your partner is easier to pull off in the evening!
